An Effort to End Nutritional Ignorance

RANT: The CLEAN 15

Last week we covered the Dirty Dozen–the most chemically contaminated produce. Buying the organic version of the produce on the Dirty Dozen is an important step in cancer prevention.

This week’s blog reveals the Clean 15! So you’ll know where to spend your organic dollars.

The Clean 15 List, which periodically changes, includes the produce with the least chemical and pesticide exposure–so theoretically you would not need to buy organic (though, if you can afford it, do it! For your health, your community, and to support those farmers who are growing responsibly). Here goes:

1. AVOCADOS

2. SWEET CORN

3. PINEAPPLES

4. CABBAGE

5. SWEET PEAS (Frozen)

6. ONIONS

7. ASPARAGUS

8. MANGOES

9. PAPAYAS

10.KIWI

11. EGGPLANT

12. GRAPEFRUIT

13. CANTALOUPE (domestic)

14. CAULIFLOWER

15. SWEET POTATOES

I’m always so happy to see things we eat so routinely on this list! I haven’t read the report this year. Do they comment on GMOs (like in the papaya, some sweet corn)? I’m just finally getting to reading on those issues.

I know I’m relieved avocado are there!
List of course changes periodically and varies depending on source. Also hard to not how up to date the data is, especially as farming and pesticide practices and chemicals change.

It’s a full time job keeping up with all of this, isn’t it.

Would love you to blog about GMO info you compile!

Thx for reading (and caring about this stuff)
